In a recent survey conducted among Americans, percent of respondents identified themselves as part of the LGBT community. The percentage of Americans who identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer was relatively low and inching up slowly year over year.
Recently, the pace has sped up. Gallup’s newest report recorded the single largest one-year increase in LGBTQ identity. Innearly one in ten ( percent) Americans identify as LGBTQ. Ina global survey found that around 4% identified as bisexual across 30 countries. Moreover, 3% identified as gay/lesbian or homosexual, followed by 1% of people interviewed who identified themselves as pansexual or omnisexual, meaning they are attracted to all genders, and another 1% (asexual).
Twice as many male internet users as females identified as gay or bisexual (16% vs. 8%). People aged 18–29 were the most likely to identify as non-heterosexual (15%), followed by those aged 30–49 (10%). Only 5% of the population aged 50 or more consider themselves gay or bisexual. When it comes to sexual orientation, more than half of LGBTQ adults (55%) describe themselves as bisexual. Four-in-ten are gay or lesbian, while small shares are straight (1%) or something else (3%).
About one-in-ten LGBTQ adults (9%) are transgender. The Wahabbi interpretation of Sharia law in Saudi Arabia maintains that acts of homosexuality should be disciplined in the same way as adultery - with death by stoning. On average, they are younger than the general public. And they offer opinions on a range of public policy issues that are in sync with the Democratic and liberal tilt to their partisanship and ideology.

In many more countries transgender people are targeted by a range of laws that criminalise same-sex activity and vagrancy, hooliganism and public order offences. More Americans now say they favor same-sex marriage and fewer say homosexuality should be discouraged, compared with a decade ago.
